24th September 2003: Mk IV
This version of Electra has a metal front to the flipper as well
as a shorter body, so that it now fits into the regulation four
inch box.
The on/off switch has gone and the flipper is wider at the top,
so its more stable.
The back of the flipper servo no longer pokes though the back of
the robot. It was a little vulnerable there, so its now inside.
This does mean that the chassis is a little wobbly, however.
I've also switched away fom Dycem wheels. Dycem is very grippy,
but it's prone to picking up dust and losing grip, even during a
battle. At least the Dave Brown Lectralite wheels I'm now using are
reliable.
The flipper of this Electra has a bit of a disaster
the night before battle. I used Pacer Z-42 thread locker on the
bolts that attached the metal to the polycarbonate but I failed
to read the warning that the locker "may cause crazing in
some plastics". This includes polycarbonate.
