Fast Dalek Mk II was built a little more sturdily, although I was
still on a learning curve. For instance, I discovered that if the
flipper reaches past the front of the robot body to any degree then
the robot flips itself forwards whenever it flips another robot,
that's why added the (in retrospect) rather cool titanium prongs
on the front.
The robot wasn't able to self right from all positions, and was
rather difficult to turn on and off as this was now done by plugging
and unplugging the battery, which was shielded away from harm and
was therefore inaccessible
This was, however a fairly good robot, and the real reason I dismantled
it was because one of the wheels kept falling off: I was using Sanyo
metal motors, which have a 3mm output shaft and was fitting them
onto the lego wheels (which have a 5mm hole) by using a plastic
sleeve taken from a pulley. The plastic was soft, and the grub screw
I used to fix the wheel on with was loosening all of the time. I
had learned, while rebuilding Dynamite, to make aluminium collars
with a lathe, so I decided to do the same thing for Fast Dalek.
