Scoring a robot competition
After running quite a few Reading Robots clubs, we have settled
on three ways of scoring a competition, depending on the number
of robots, and how much time you want it to take.
1. Knock out: When you want a quick competition. If
you have an odd number of robots then either give one a bye
to the next round, or run a short league of three robots for
one of the legs
2. Small league: for a smallish
number of robots (10-15), where you want the competition to
run for a reasonable amount of time, and give everyone more
than one match. The small league actually has a relatively
large number of robots in each league table, to increase the
number of matches.
3. Large leage: for a larger number
of robots (20ish), where you still want each robot to have
more than one match, but you want to minimise the total number
of matches. The large league actually uses small league tables,
each with three robots in it.
